The Force of an Idea

There was a period where I was training ridiculous hours.

Ten in the morning to nine at night teaching.
Then home.
Then still training at eleven.

Not because I had to. Because I was chasing something.

One night I remember standing in the room completely exhausted. My body felt tight. My spine felt compressed. My nervous system was buzzing in that uncomfortable way where you are both wired and drained.

I thought to myself, this is pointless. I am tired. Nothing is flowing.

Instead of trying harder, I closed my eyes and ran a simple cue I had used with students a thousand times:

Up through the spine.
Out the top of the head.
Let it flow back down.

At first, nothing.

Just silence and stiffness.

But I kept seeing it. Not forcing. Not straining. Just clearly visualising the movement.

Up.
Out.
Down.

And then something subtle happened.

My shoulders dropped without me telling them to. My ribs softened. My jaw unclenched. It felt like something inside the nerves themselves began to clear.

And then I felt it.

A current.

Imagination Is Not Passive

Most people treat imagination like daydreaming.

It is not.

When you truly visualise something, the act of seeing it internally is a verb. It is a process. It is neural activity organising itself in a direction.

An idea has force.

When you think “up through the spine,” your nervous system does not sit idle. It begins mapping that pathway. It begins reducing resistance along that imagined route.

If nothing happens the first time, it is not because the method failed.

It is because the system is too locked.

Why Repetition Works

The repetition of a thought is not mental stubbornness.

It is gradual permission.

Each time you see the flow clearly, something relaxes.

The muscles guarding around the spine soften.
The joints decompress slightly.
The noise in the nervous system quiets.

You are not pushing qi.

You are removing friction.

And when enough friction is removed, current becomes obvious.

It can start as warmth.
A tingling in the hands.
A spreading fullness in the spine.

Then it strengthens.

Sometimes it comes on so quickly that your awareness lags behind it. One moment you feel neutral. The next moment your limbs feel charged and heavy at the same time.

Clearing the Signal

Relaxing the nervous system is not about feeling sleepy.

It is about clearing old signals.

Stress patterns are signals.
Guarding reflexes are signals.
Emotional holding is a signal.

When those are constantly firing, there is no room for anything new.

But when you relax deeply, those background signals drop away. The pathways open. The nerves conduct more cleanly.

It feels like fresh current flowing through a wire that was previously corroded.

That is why qi feels real.

It is the sensation of unobstructed signalling.

The Fastest Path to Power

Here is the irony.

This is the fastest way I have ever found to unlock massive power.

Not by lifting heavier.
Not by striking harder.
By calming the nervous system faster.

When the nerves relax, weight transmission improves automatically. The spine opens. The joints organise. The limbs connect to the centre.

Power increases without you realising why.

You think you did nothing.

But in reality, you removed the internal interference that was blocking your own mass.

Watching It in Action

I saw this most clearly with Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin.

He could switch it on at will.

He would touch someone lightly, and suddenly they could perform movements with tremendous power. It felt like something had entered their body. Their structure organised instantly.

Then he would remove his touch.

And it would disappear.

That showed me something profound.

It was not muscular strength.
It was not external technique.

It was nervous system state.

He could relax and organise his intent so completely that the flow conducted through another person. When his mind shifted, the flow stopped.

The Emotional Truth

The deepest relaxation I have ever felt did not come from convincing myself to calm down.

It came from releasing tension from the spine and nerves.

When that release happens, something changes emotionally.

You feel grounded.
Safe.
Steady.

The anxiety drops without you arguing with it. The mind becomes quiet because the body is no longer sending alarm signals.

And from that stillness, power emerges.

Not aggressive power.

Crushing, calm power.

The kind that feels impossible to misuse because it feels too good.

The Real Takeaway

Visualisation is not fantasy.

It is the force of an idea organising your nervous system.

Up through the spine.
Out the crown.
Flowing back down.

Each repetition dissolves resistance.

Each dissolution clears signal.

Clear signal creates flow.

Flow creates power.

Relax the nervous system deeply enough, and you do not have to chase strength.

It arrives on its own.
